MAD MEN: Method to the Madness- s5e7

It becomes much clearer now as the haze begins to clear and intentions revealed --why it is "impossible" for Megan to have a child with Don. The reason for always speaking French over the phone, the inviting of Don's "friends" and professional connections only to perform an audition on a more homely stage, her uncanny ability to play the role during the Heinz dinner, and even going into the past, an ability to play the female mole in a test subject group, traversing back into Mad Men past. But is it really possible that from the onset, Megan had a methodical plan to enter the advertising industry only to brand herself and seek a back door entrance into acting after having been rejected at the front?

"Not tonight" she tells her Papa leads one to conclude there have been multiple conversations between the two of her continuing conflict with the pursuit of acting. Her father asks her if it is her passion to be a copyright in advertising and his background gives a sense of espionage as if Megan is a female spy considering his idealogies are uncharacteristic and frowned upon in the context of the time. A deceptive light reflected on Megan.

Peggy knows satisfaction and she did not see it. Megan should have been elated and it is strange to Peggy who twisted face displays a wonderment of ununderstood curiosity.

There seems to be a connection between Peggy's life and that of Megan's. Her mother tells her father would have been upset with her for selling herself short. Is that what Megan is doing according to her father? Peggy is with a man that will use her according to her mother but does this mirror Megan's view? Peggy has a boyfriend whose personality is in complete opposites to her own.

One cannot help but think about the effects the fights between her parents has on her because of her own skirmishes with Don. Her father also seems to be much older than his wife.

Harry knew exactly how the dinner with Heinz went and he was not even there. A little birdie must have told him personally given the vivid details which he must have known and it is only a matter of time.

It is common sense that Harry would be mesmerized by Megan glimpsing back at the first episode of the season. He is a TV man and rather than recognize Megan for her performance, she was
viewed more as an object of lust. Not a talented performer. Is that why Megan was uneasy after overhearing his remarks about her? Megan is clever enough to know that her audience
would discuss and think of her merely in a sexual way but for the TV man who should be able to sift through the rubbage not recognize talent, that is appalling.

Megan is a revamped, updated version of Betty Draper. She seems to have conflicting pursuits and does not fully give up on becoming an actress. Betty was able to get an audition at a later period in her life when a beverage company wanted her to audition to get to Don. Megan is prime for an opportunity. Like Megan, her career in acting ended but the bug did not die until she squashed it. Megan does not want to show up at the fight yet she hones her skills and thinks of it constantly. She recognizes opportunity, strikes at it, and she's "good at it all".

Roger Sterling told Don earlier in the season it is good until 'they' want something. Is it possible that Megan planned to become an actress by entering the advertising industry so she could have more accessibility to television and movies even from before becoming a secretary? It does not seem to be a coincidence that she chose copyright where the ideas are developed--which role suits best?
